Public Policy in a Small Open Economy (BS0089)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : MSE-P-BS0089 This elective offers students on the Part-Time MBA Programme, almost all of whom have jobs in Scotland, an opportunity to explore the factors which influence the development of the Scottish economy and the potential for public policy to accelerate that growth. At the end of the course students should:
- Understand the key features of Small Open Economies - Understand the structure and recent performance of the Scottish economy. - Understand the key drivers of that performance. - Be able to critically digest media and political comment about trends in the Scottish economy. - Be aware of the potential role of public policy in improving the performance of the Scottish economy. - Be aware of the evidence base on the impact of various policies. At the end of the course students will be asked to complete a questionnaire to provide feedback. Any feedback that will improve the course will be acted upon for the following year. A two hour exam in the tenth week of the course. Questions are designed to allow students to demonstrate their analytical ability.
