Topics in Microeconomics (EC0029)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : MSE-3-TinMicro

This course is designed to provide a coherent development of some important microeconomic topics at a more advanced level than that of standard intermediate courses. It thus extends and deepens the work of Economics 2, bridging the gap between intermediate and graduate level courses in microeconomics, and providing further insight into some recent areas of microeconomic research activity. Together with the course, Topics in Macroeconomics, it will provide a systematic treatment of material and analytic methods useful for the majority of honours options. Throughout there is an emphasis on the practical application of economic principles. The course does have a mathematical content and knowledge of basic calculus is assumed. Topics covered are likely to include: intertemporal choice; choice under uncertainty; game theory; asymmetric information; auctions; bargaining; oligopoly; general equilibrium and welfare economics.
