Basic Research Methods in Divinity (P00604)

This course is designed to introduce Taught Masters' students in the School of Divinity to the range of research resources available in the School, including library and computing facilities. In addition, it will introduce students to issues of critical thinking, and good practice in essay writing.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:
1. Effectively use the library facilities at New College library
2. Prepare work using the computer facilties at the School of Divinity; and, if in difficulty, know how to call on Computer Support
3. Distinguish between different style conventions for references/footnotes.
4. Understand the relevance of archives, and other non-published sources relevant to their area of study.
5. Write relevant book reviews on topics relevant to their area of study.

Assessment Information

Two book reviews (or equivalent)in an area relevant to the programme being studied, totalling not more than 2000 words.
