Acronym : INF-P-NLSSD This course gives students an opportunity to work collaboratively on the specification, design, implementation and evaluation of a spoken language system of significant size and of current interest within the speech and language community, using mostly off-the-shelf components. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : PGs only. Students should be able to program in one or more of the following programming languages: C, C++, Java, Matlab, Perl or Python. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
It is anticipated that students who complete the course will be able to:
-Refine an open-ended problem, resulting in the specification of a spoken language system; -Implement generic speech and language technologies for a specific task; -Work as part of a team and participate in group decision-making; -Assess and use off-the-shelf research software for speech and language processing; -Devise and satisfy realistic goals given external time constraints; -Present the work done as reports, orally and within a system demonstration; -Critically review and evaluate the resulting system.
