Introduction to Epidemiology and Statistics (P01459)

The module provides an introduction to key concepts, methods and topics in epidemiology, as well as some of the statistical methods required to be able to appreciate and appraise epidemiological research.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge of the role of epidemiology and statistics in public health.
2. Understanding of key epidemiological statistics principles.
3. Understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different epidemiological and statistical methods, the links between them and how they can be employed to undertake research in Public Health.
4. Develop the facility to appraise critically public health research.

Assessment Information

Written Exam at end of Semester One in the form of short answers on various topics.
