Philosophy of Science 1 (PP9977)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : PPL-1-POS1H-PH An introduction to the theory of knowledge and the philosophy of the natural sciences. Topics to be studied may include: scepticism, perception, appearance and reality, theory and observation, the problem of induction, the nature of scientific progress, Bayesian confirmation theory. 2 essays, 1 degree exam. Coursework: first essay counts for 40%; second essay counts for 60%; exemption at 60% or over. Final assessment without exemption: 50% degree exam; 50% coursework; must obtain at least 35% in degree exam.
