Students will be able to:
- articulate the problems associated with building theories of religion from African perpectives; - differentiate between African interpretations and the appropriation of Western concepts as if they were indigenous; - critically analyse the approaches to the study of religions by the African scholars examined; explain the relevance of post-colonial perspectives to African views of Religious Studies; - express in written and verbal forms how competing theories in the study of religions by African scholar critique each other. Assessment Information
The course will be examined internally by the course manager, following School and University policy. The assessment will be moderated by a second internal marker with a knowledge in the field. An external examiner, as appointed, will provide externality. Assessment will be calculated in the following ways: Degree Examinations (60%); Essay of 2000 words (30%); Seminar Presentation and Participation (10%).
