Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will understand and be able to use:
- basic principles of phonetic description and transcription; - basic principles in describing the sound system of languages; - basic principles for the description of grammatical structure and the structure of words; - principles for the systematic study of word and sentence meaning. In addition, students will understand: - the relationship between language and verbal and non-verbal communication; - aspects of conversational interaction; - aspects of speech and language technologies. 1 take-home assignment. 1 1200-word essay; 2 class tests; phonetics practical. Class work 50%; degree exams 50%. Exemptions granted.
