Applied Keyboard Skills (U00884)

A practical keyboard course comprising harmonisation and improvisation, partly with a view to furthering the skills required in music teaching and music therapy.

Entry Requirements

? This course is not available to visting students.

? Pre-requisites : Performance Studies 2b or Performance and Keyboard 2.

? Prohibited combinations : This course is not available to students on the BA Humanities and Social Science.

Delivery Information

? Normal year taken : 3rd year

? Delivery Period : Full Year (Blocks 1-4)

? Contact Teaching Time : 30 minutes per week for 20 weeks

? Additional Class Information : Taught in tutorial groups. Students assigned to groups in Freshers Week.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To foster in students fluency at the keyboard in harmonising and accompanying melodies in 'classical', jazz and popular styles. To learn something of improvisation at the keyboard, both on ground basses, ostinatos, 12-bar blues and other recognised patterns as well as freer styles.

Assessment Information

One 30 minute class exam (25%) and one 30 minute degree examination (75%).
