Sound Recording 3b: Studio (U00891)

An introduction to sound recording in the studio, including: microphone placement, recording media, advanced sound editing and production, effects processing, and stereo and multi-track recording. Lectures will include technical and contextual topics. The numbers admitted to this course are limited.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- Students will make sound recordings in the studio involving various instrumental/vocal/stylistic configurations with technical and aesthetic success.
- They will understand contemporary recording media and processes.
- They will understand the history and cultural context of sound recording in the studio.
- They will operate a recording studio with technical confidence.

Assessment Information

One substantial edited multi-track studio recording (100%).
