Materials Engineering is concerned with the application of Materials Science principles and processes in modern industry. The module draws on the bases of Materials Science taught in earlier years, putting the subject in the context of the needs and advancements of society and industry and national well-being.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Appreciate recent advances in materials engineering;

2. Have an acquaintance with modern methods for shaping materials;

3. Understand the rudiments of the corrosion of metals, and its reduction and prevention, and environment effects;

4. Have progressed to understand how oxidation processes arise in materials processes;

5. See how materials coating technologies are being progressed in different industries;

6. Realise the advantages of rapid prototyping to industry and the materials and processes to which it applies.
