Master versions of the Degree Regulations and Programmes of Study incorporating all changes to date are archived twice a year on 1 September and within the first three University working days prior to the start of Semester 2 in January. Please note that some of the data recorded about this course has been amended since the last master version was archived. That version should be consulted to determine the changes made.

Black American Fiction (U01389)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : LLC-3-U01389

An examination of black American Fiction and its role in the formation of cultural identity. The course considers the particular stylistic and theoretical concerns of Black American writing, contextualised within the broader realm of American culture. The idea and affectivity of the notion of 'race' is interrogated on the course, particularly as it impacts upon gender and social class. The outlines of a black American literary 'tradition' are outlined, but not prescriptively determined.
