Integrated Pathology/Clinical Studies II (U02054)

This Module will provide an introduction to surgical principles, concepts and methodology. It also includes a series of integrated lectures (involving pathology, medicine and surgery) on large and small animal neoplasia and diagnostic imaging. This integrated pathology/medicine module comprises lectures on small and large animal Neoplasia, Haemolymphatic System, Infectious/Granulomatous Diseases, Reproduction, Alimentary and Dentistry. Along with the other modules in Veterinary Clinical Studies it constitutes the foundation for the clinical rotations, tutorials and assignments of the lecture free final year.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be assessed on their ability to:
1. Understand the principles of operative surgical techniques, basic surgical concepts, peritonitis, wound management, cutaneous reconstruction and herniorrhaphy.
2. Understand the principles of how tumours develop, the methods of detecting and diagnosing the presence of tumours and their treatment.
3. Understand the principles of diagnostic imaging and interpretation of radiographic and sonographic images.

Assessment Information

There will be a two hour end of module examination at the end of the course. The examination will comprise two sections (A and B) with each section contributing 50% of the marks. Section A will comprise a choice of two out of three 30 minute questions and Section B will comprise of 40 compulsory multiple choice questions.
