The module looks at languages and techniques for encoding, sharing, and reasoning with information represented in symbolic fashion. It also covers methodologies important to the development and application of distributed knowledge based systems, and introduces agent systems.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

In addition to specific problem-solving and programming skills for knowledge representation and engineering, you will learn how to evaluate, critically, different styles of work and how to extract the key contributions and hypotheses in a particular approach. You will also have the opportunity to recognise the gaps between theoretical developments and practical applications, and to search and read the literature.
