Analysis of Economic Data (VS1) (U02317)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : MSE-3-AED-VS-S1 AED provides an opportunity to learn skills that are important for later stages of the Economics programme, and many future career and life contexts. AED aims to ensure that all economics honours students have at least a basic grasp of the techniques of modern empirical economics. The topics covered include: basic data handling; correlation; simple regression; multiple regression; regression with dummy variables; introduction to stationary time series methods; introduction to nonstationary time series methods (unit roots and cointegration). The course is applications- and computer-oriented, and makes extensive use of Excel. It thus provides an opportunity to develop and practice important transferable practical skills in computing, data gathering, processing, analysis and presentation. These skills play an important role in assessment for the course, reflected in the style of exam questions and the empirical projects. The half course Introductory Econometrics (IE) builds on the material covered in AED, with AED providing a more intuitive and informal understanding of key econometric topics covered more rigorously in IE. Joint Honours students, not formally required to take IE, are encouraged to do so if they want to develop a fuller and more rigorous understanding of econometric analysis. Entry Requirements?
