Population Medicine and Veterinary Public Health II (U02883)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : VET-2-PMVPH2 This course comprises a group of related subjects which have, as a common theme, the study and control of disease in populations, in contrast to the individual. The populations are both animal and human; the Course therefore includes control of zoonotic infections and food hygiene. The subject matter is now spread through the first four years of the veterinary programme in a so-called 'vertical thread'. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will be assessed according to their ability to:
1. Perceive the problems associated with inferences based on studies of populations. 2. Establish a factual base of knowledge which will prepare them for their professional role in combating disease at the regional, national and international levels. Assessment Information
The In-Course Assessment will consist of:
Year 2 (a) Critical and quantitative analysis of a scientific paper (15%) (b) An essay in the area of Epidemiology (10%) Each year's assessment contributes 25% of the total In-course marks. At the end of the fourth year, the End-of-Course Examination will contain two Units of Assessment. (a) An essay paper: A paper of one hour which consists of three questions, two of which are to be attempted. Total for paper 40% (b) A paper containing (i) a problem-solving question, 30 minutes 20% (ii) a set of short questions, 1 hour 40% Total for paper 60% Questions may include any of the four years work.
