Postcolonial Writing (U02908)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-4-EL0093 A study of ethnicity and ethnic identity in writing from Africa, North America, India and the Caribbean. Consideration will also be given to British ethnicity in the post-war period. The course will include a discussion of crucial issues in postcolonial theory, and will initiate an investigation into the new immigrant writing. Entry Requirements? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will learn to analyse selected texts within both 'global' and 'local' cultural and theoretical frameworks, investigating ways in which colonial writing and criticism intersect with international postcolonial writing and theory. They will be able to evaluate how these texts are inflected by the unique cultural politics of the Pacific region.

1 course essay of c. 2,500 words (25%), 1 take-away examination essay of c. 3,000 words (75%)
