Health Informatics in Practice I (P02830)

To provide the student with an opportunity to assess and develop their experience and professional skills by the application and implementation of health informatics in their professional practice. This is achieved through the development of a reflective portfolio of evidence developed
through a cycle of personal professional needs assessment and development planning.

Entry Requirements

? This course is not available to visting students.

? Pre-requisites : None other than programme entry requirements

? Co-requisites : This is a compulsory course for all candidates on the Cert/Dip/MSc in Health Informatics programme, except those following the Certificate in Applied Clinical Informatics.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : This course will be supported using RCSEd’s VLE which contains an ePortfolio for students to upload documentary evidence for mentor review.

? Additional Class Information : The student will be expected to spend an appropriate proportion of their 10 hour formal weekly course load developing and uploading content to their ePortfolios.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

a. Plan and manage their learning through reflecting on and analysing their own practices and learning needs
b. Apply health informatics knowledge and understanding to specific work base issues

Assessment Information

Course assessments relate to the learning outcomes and are largely based on experiential learning. Formative and summative work will also be included and be approved by the
Programme Committee, on the recommendation of the Course Convenor. Portfolios may include, or be supplemented by, one or more of the following:
• Essay style analysis or commentary
• Scenario analysis
• Critical/Significant incident analysis
• Reflective practice accounts
• Individual presentations
• Multiple Choice Questions
• Other relevant assessments
