Entry into Honours requires a pass of 50% or above, in the first
attempt, in either Philosophy 2A or Philosophy 2B, and in
English Literature 2. |
‡ A booklet detailing the courses being offered in
them each year as well as restrictions on choice will be available to students
to facilitate advance planning. Philosophy courses are divided into three
groups based on area. Students are encouraged to take a balance of
the three areas. |
* Honours degrees must include at least 40 credits of dissertation
work. Where this is taken in English Literature, a 20 credit unit towards
the dissertation will be taken in third year, and a 20 credit completion
unit in the fourth year. Where this is taken in Philosophy, students must
take the Philosophy Dissertation Preparation Course in their 3rd years
and then have two options in their 4th years: (i) to take two
further option courses in philosophy and be examined on 5000 word essays
for each course, or (ii) to register for the dissertation completion course
and write one 8000 word essay on a topic to be arranged with the department.
All students who take the dissertation in philosophy must complete the
Philosophy Dissertation course in year 3. |
