Third-year Project in Language Sciences (U03199)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : PPL-3-Y3Proj-LS Students write an 8,000-word long essay on a topic which is relevant to their degree programme. The topic of the essay should be agreed with the Course Organiser before students begin their third year of studies and the essay should be written during the third year, while abroad. Students will be assigned a supervisor at Edinburgh and will be expected to remain in contact with their supervisor during the year, typically by email. The deadline for submission of the essay will normally be the Monday of Week 3 of the first semester of the students' fourth year of study. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : This course is ONLY available to students on the following degree programmes: (i) Japanese and Linguistics, (ii) Chinese and Linguistics, (iii) Individual Subject Combinations similar to (i) and (ii), with the permission of the Course Organiser. Students will be able to:
- demonstrate advanced mastery, at an appropriate level, of general and subject-specific skills, knowledge and understanding of language sciences at an appropriate level - demonstrate the ability to plan, design and/or execute an original piece of research, to succinctly report results within an appropriate theoretical framework, and to relate results to the existing literature and the field as a whole.
