Course description |

Synopsis
An introduction to some of the principles, which
govern design; including unity, proportion, scale,
contrast, harmony, rhythm.
The preparation of design briefs: site survey and
evaluation, development of objectives and
controls,testing, re-consideration of the controls
Aims
1. To examine, discuss and evaluate various
principles which underlie the design of the built
environment
2. To familiarise students with the process of
design and development briefing
Mode of Delivery
This is a seminar and project based module. Directed
study to core texts will form the basis of a seminar
presentation. Students will present an overview of a
core text, which will be followed by discussion on the
issues raised. A parallel project will explore the
development of a design brief for a site. |

1. understand a range of the principles used in
design and critically analyse and constructively
discuss these principles with the peer group
2. prepare and test a design and development brief
for a specific site
