Indicative Module Content
Initially the personal views of participants are considered. Subsequently, specific texts are examined in detail. The texts examined fall into the following categories: socio-economic perspectives, ecological perspectives, spatial perspectives, imagery.
Aims of Module
1. To provide a general awareness of urban design theories
2. To examine urban design from social, ecological, spatial and psychological perspectives
3. To assess the significance of those theories for contemporary practice
Mode of Delivery
This is a seminar-based module with directed study to core texts. Each student presents an overview of a core text, which is followed by discussion on the issues raised.

On completion of this module, the student is expected to:
1. display awareness of the range of theories which support the discipline of urban design
2. understand how these theories have developed
and their significance for current practice
3. display presentation and communication skills

Assessment Information
Assessment Plan
Learning outcomes are assessed by coursework. Outcomes 1, 2,& 3 are assessed through a seminar presentation (40%) participation in the discussion (20%) and written essay (40%).
