Course description |
Large numbers of websites now exist that give access to meta databases that have been derived from chemical or biological structure databases. This course is about the techniques required for initial dataset selection, mining of the primary data and creation of a database to hold the results of this mining, and then finally the design of a web based interface to provide access to that data. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the technologies that underpin current structural databases. They should also have demonstrated the ability to successfully mine a small example dataset, place their results in a relational database system, and produce a simple website to access that data. |
Assessment Information
An essay based question will account for 50% and an ICA consisting of a database development project will account for the other 50%. |
