This course introduces students to the linguistic study of classical Hebrew language in tandem with reading extra-biblical Hebrew texts from the classical period. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
? acquire an understanding of the way linguists approach problems in the description of ancient Hebrew;
? exhibit a detailed understanding of classical Hebrew grammar and syntax;
? read extra-biblical Hebrew texts, as well as a selection from cognate languages (e.g. Moabite); and
? offer an historical perspective on the development of the Hebrew language before the turn of the Era.

- seminar presentation and participation, 20%
- essay on aspect of classical Hebrew language, 30%
- timed take-home exam (texts), 50%
