Course description This course uses lectures, practicals and tutorials to focus on the principles and patterns of pathology using, where appropriate, examples of specific diseases for illustrative purposes. Along with the Clinical Foundation Module and earlier Body Systems courses, this course provides a foundation for the subsequent species based integrated clinical modules.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, students should:
Understand and be able to describe the principles of lesion development and differential diagnosis at a gross and histopathological level.
Be able to describe the basic procedure for post mortem examination.
Understand the principles of post mortem change and incidental findings.
Demonstrate an understanding of the pathogenesis of disease as it relates to the body systems at a macroscopic and basic microscopic level.
Understand the principles of cytology and tissue sampling for histopathology
Assessment Information
In-course assessment: collaborative project (10%)

Written degree examination at the end of semester 1 (90%)
Paper 1
Written paper comprising short answer and multilple choice questions
Paper 2
The examination will take place in a lecture theatre or computer laboratory and will consist of images and associated questions. The images will include images of gross and histological/cytological material.
