| Course description |
An intensive beginners' course in Scottish Gaelic, providing tuition and practice in written and spoken Gaelic. A good deal of private work is needed to meet the requirements of this course. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| Gaelic 1A (Visiting Undergraduates) aims to give students with no previous knowledge of Scottish Gaelic a basic grounding in written and spoken Modern Scottish Gaelic by combining an active use of the language with an intellectual understanding of grammatical structure. By the end of the course, students may expect to have gained a basic reading and writing knowledge of Scottish Gaelic and also to be able to participate in simple conversations. |
Assessment Information
Weekly language exercises and other written assignments; one formal examination during the Semester 1 examination period. The examination consists of a 2-hour written paper, a short oral proficiency test and a dictation test.
Final exam (December) 40%; 3 class tests through the semester 40%; Oral testing (December) 10%; Coursework through the semester 10%. |
