Course description |
This course covers: the strategy of process control; controller tuning methods and frequency response; multivariable control theory; and construction of dynamic process models with control. The emphasis is on control problems in process engineering including control of flash distillation and distillation column units, with additional whole process examples. |
Course Delivery Information
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students should be able to:
- develop structured, logical control schemes for complex processes;
- choose control configurations for standard operations;
- estimate controller parameter settings;
- describe the frequency domain representation of dynamic process and control behaviour;
- explain the issues which arise when multiple control loops interact;
- develop systematic differential-algebraic equations models for dynamic process systems. |
Assessment Information
Two hour written examination at the end of the semester.
