Course description |
In this course, the student develops an ability to tackle water resources problems. The course relates theory to engineering practice and includes the application of hydrological models. The emphasis of the course is in presenting a sound theoretical base from which practical applications in various aspects of water resources engineering can be made. |
Course Delivery Information
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The primary objectives of the course are:
- to present and review the application of statistical and stochastic modelling techniques;
- to present the fundamentals of deterministic hydrological modelling, and to consider their application through case studies;
- to introduce the basic concepts of flood hydrology, and to consider approaches suitable to data-scarce situations;
- to present analytical/numerical approaches to the solution of groundwater flow prob-lems;
- to review approaches to wellfield design and consider regional groundwater flow modelling
- to present approaches to water resources planning based on risk assessment;
- to introduce the application of linear and dynamic programming techniques in water resources. |

The assessment will be made on the basis of:
Degree examination 90%
Coursework 10%
