Course description |
In this course the student develops an ability to analyse coastal engineering problems. The emphasis of the course is on the application of theoretical concepts to design situations and to the environmental management of the coastal zone. |
Course Delivery Information
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The primary objectives of the course are:
- to give an overview of the coastal and estuarine environments;
- to revise key material on the behaviour of real fluids;
- to discuss the theoretical representation of fluid turbulence;
- to develop a basic understanding of tides;
- to present and review oscillatory wave theory;
- to examine the effects of waves and currents on structures; and
- to relate wave and tide theory to the design of coastal works and the management of the coastal environment.
