Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will receive preparation and support for their own research, and insight into practical, theoretical and methodological aspects of study in Celtic and Scottish Ethnology. They will develop their own research and writing skills by participating in training sessions and practical workshops. |
Assessment Information
The course will be assessed on coursework only, weighted as follows:
Long essay - 50%
Short essay/project 1 - 20%
Short essay/project 2 - 20%
Assessed presentation - 7.5%
Selection of peer-marked writing group exercises - 2.5%
As well as a 5-6000 word research essay, students will be required to undertake two short assignments (each amounting to c. 2000-2500 words in final form); a short essay/project consisting of a literature review and description of state of research related to their own topic interests, and a short essay/project consisting of a statement and defence of theoretical/methodological approaches to be taken in their own research topics. Students will also be required to prepare and deliver a 20 minute presentation to be given at a postgraduate day conference, to be assessed for presentation and communication skills rather than content. Participation in the writing group will involve the preparation and peer assessment of a variety of exercises. |
