Course description |
This course will look at some key developments in French cinema from the 1950s to the present (the Nouvelle Vague, the cinema 'du Look', Heritage cinema, the New Realism, the cinema 'of Transgression'). It will offer students an opportunity to discover and discuss a series of important trends and representative films, which will be located within the historical context. Amongst others, the work of the following filmmakers will be discussed: Francois Truffant, Jean-Luc Godard, Agnes Varda, Claude Chabrol, Jean-Luc Beineix, Jean-Luc Besson, Leos Carax, Sandrine Veysset, Bruno Dumont, Claire Denis, Catherine Breillat, Francois Ozon. |
