Course description |
Physical Education Perspectives 2 focuses on the development of the underpinning knowledge and understanding associated with the areas of scientific, social and aesthetic knowledge and the manner with which they are related to Physical Education. Students are encouraged to partake in a reflective discourse on the nature of Physical Education from a variety of standpoints as well as developing their own ability to undertake research in both qualatative and quantative areas |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:-
- How aesthetic, sociocultural and scientific perspectives can be used to illuminate issues in Physical Education.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding and skill in relation to the creative process as it applies in the context of PE.
- Identify and explain the basic laws and principles that govern the analysis of Physical activities from the perspectives of Kinesiology and biomechanics.
- Describe and explain ways in which pupils and teachers experience and interpret the environment and culture of PE.
- Demonstrate a capacity to generate and analyse quantatative data in order to develop understanding of an issue in Physical Education. |
Assessment Information
Aesthetics - 1000 word assignment based on student understanding of aesthetics theories and concepts and their significance for the professional in action.
Science - A
2 hours exam comprising psychological perspectives and biomechanical analysis of physical activity.
Social Cultural - 1500 word assignment that draws on placement experience, lecture and workshop topics. |
