Course description |
Placement 2 consists of five serial days or an enquiry week in semester 1 followed by a block placement of five weeks in semester 2. Students, unless circumstances prevent it, will be placed in pairs. These pairings will facilitate collaborative learning through providing opportunities to share developing understandings, provide feedback and generally support each other. Where pairings prove impossible alternative strategies to facilitate peer learning will be used.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The purposes of Placement 2 are to develop understanding and professional competence in relation to:
- the curriculum, principles and practices in early education;
- the role of observation and reflection in planning for effective teaching and successful learning;
- planning, implementing and evaluating their own teaching in the P1 to P3 range;
- planning, teaching, managing and evaluating one whole day;
- the roles of teachers and other associated professionals within and beyond the school;
- self-evaluation to improve teaching and learning.

Assessment Information
Evidence of achievement of the Learning Outcomes is derived from:
- The Teaching File
- The Professional Development Portfolio, containing written tasks and Progress Review
- Successful completion of the placement
Details of how these assessment points are overtaken are given to the students in writing in the full Placement 2 documentation
