Course description The Curriculum and Pedagogy 2b course offers the students the opportunity to become involved in the knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning in the areas of Mathematics, Sciences & Technologies.The course aims to develop and enhance the pedagogy of the B.Ed. Programme Education Courses (1a, 1b) and to build on the parallel experiences students will be gaining through Education 2. Specific links will be made to Formative Assessment and Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) and their relation to curricular frameworks and outcomes in practice. The course aims to recognise the Scottish context, considering policy and practice outlined in the curriculum frameworks 3 $ú 15, building on Nursery placement experience and preparing students for subsequent practice in Early, Middle and Upper stages of primary education in Scotland.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students will show understanding, competence and awareness in relation to:
- Curricular content pertaining to Mathematics, Sciences and Technology, showing an understanding of their individual features in planning, teaching, learning and assessment.
- Theoretical and research-informed perspectives associated with our understanding of the ways in which children develop concepts in these curricular areas.
- Planning, teaching and assessing stimulating, progressive programmes in more than one of the areas of Mathematics, Sciences and Technology.
- The need to address diversity among learners by being able to recognise and respond to learning difficulties and the need to challenge able pupils within specific curricular outcomes detailed in the course curricula.
- The wide range of resources that can be used to support teaching and learning, including ICT and other apparatus and technologies appropriate to the curricular areas.
Assessment Information
There are two summative assessment tasks each with a weighting of 50%. Students must achieve a minimum of 40 marks for each task in order to pass the course. Total wordage 2500.
