Course description Curriculum and Pedagogy 2d offers students opportunities to develop understanding about teaching and learning in the areas of Expressive Arts (Art & Design and Drama), Social Studies and Mathematics. The overall purpose is to support students in becoming knowledgeable, confident and reflective teachers in these strands. The curricular areas are considered in the broader context, outlined in the emerging curriculum framework (CfE), and with reference to the education courses running concurrently in the programme. Whilst the curriculum components above will be presented as distinct strands, opportunities will be identified to integrate learning across them.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students are able to:

&· Describe and justify Expressive Arts, Social Studies and Mathematics as key areas of learning in primary schools, showing understanding of their individual characteristics in relation to planning, teaching, learning and assessment.

&· Show confidence in subject and pedagogical knowledge in each strand, in relation to the primary age range.

&· Plan, teach and assess stimulating, progressive programmes in Expressive Arts, Social Studies and Mathematics, with reference to individuals, groups and classes.

&· Suggest suitable curriculum content, resources and approaches to developing integrated learning experiences across selected strands.

&· Demonstrate a commitment to social justice and inclusive learning.
Assessment Information
Curriculum and Pedagogy 2d has one summative assessment which will be in two parts: a group oral presentation (with a 500 word written summary) and a written assignment (2000 words). The weighting will be one third and two thirds respectively.
The assessment is designed to allow students to demonstrate their understanding of selected features of Expressive Arts (Art & Design and Drama), Social Studies and Mathematics. It will also encourage students to draw on knowledge from the Education courses and Placement experiences.
There will be opportunities for formative assessment through observation, listening and sharing and through formative class tasks.
