Course description This subject develops a framework for understanding the relationship between management and organisational theories and the management of sporting and recreation organisations. It examines organisational structures, decision processes and leadership in private, public and third-sector organisations responsible for the delivery of recreation services, and focuses on the impact of organisational processes on the individual.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students will be able to:
1. demonstrate an understanding of the theories of management and leadership.
2. discuss and analyse the influence of individual characteristics in the workplace.
3. identify and evaluate various organisational strategies, process, and designs.
4. demonstrate the importance of management theories to sport and recreation organisations
Assessment Information
The assessment for this module will consist of two 2000 word written assignments. The first assignment (worth 50% of overall grade) will consist of an analysis of the management structure and processes within a sport and recreation organisation of the student's choice. The second assignment (worth 50% of overall grade) will be an analysis of a case study provided by the tutor.
