This course offers a comprehensive yet flexible approach enabling teachers to acquire, or update, knowledge and skills in the choice and use of hardware and software access and inclusion for their pupils and students. Access and communication technologies play a critical role in all learning environments for children and young people with visual impairment |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Course members will be able to demonstrate:
1. An ability to identify barriers to learning and communication caused by visual impairment and additional impairments and how technology can contribute to overcoming these barriers with the active involvement of their pupils and students.
2. Skills in using and evaluating a range of technological devices to support learning and inclusion.
3. Knowledge of the issues and process involved in assessing for appropriate access technology for those with visual impairment.
4. Knowledge of sources of information, practical help and the outcomes of recent research.

Assessment Information
A. Course members' practical skills in using and evaluating technology will be addressed during the course.
In addition to this course members will write a description of, and evaluate, a selected piece of equipment or software they have used during the practical sessions. (1000 words)
and
B. An account of the planning, implementation and evaluation of technology -based work with an individual/group of learners with visual impairment from the course member's context of work, where the practice is examined in the light of recent research and theoretical input from the course. (4000 words)
