Course description This is the second course of a certificate which aims to develop leadership knowledge and understanding and leadership and organisational skills, and to enable participants to reflect critically on the understanding and skills they acquire. Course participants will be able both to develop their leadership potential and reflect on how they might exercise leadership in their own school setting, within a focus on working with and leading staff as a teacher leader.

Prohibited Combinations Other requirements A first degree;
Full GTCS registration;
A minimum of three years teaching experience;
Access to a suitable working environment which will enable the applicant to carry out practical leadership activities;
An application supported by the applicant&Šs headteacher or an appropriate senior manager.
Successful completion of Course 1 to progress into Course 2

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Development of knowledge and understanding of:
&ˇ a range of theoretical perspectives on distributed leadership and collaborative practice
&ˇ approaches to working with others
&ˇ the concept of culture and its application to schools
&ˇ the nature of collaboration
&ˇ effectiveness in working and leading others.

&ˇ gathering relevant information to examine culture and collaborative practice
&ˇ analysing cultures in school and identifying areas for improvement
&ˇ reviewing critically their practice in a team context
&ˇ identifying their strengths in working collaboratively and leading others
&ˇ planning ways of developing skills in leading and working with others
&ˇ presenting information coherently.
Assessment Information
Assessment will consist of two equally weighted components.

1. A critical analysis of how people work together and interact as individuals and teams within the participant&Šs school. The length of the critical analysis will be 3000 words (+/- 10%).
2. A critical reflection on the role played by the participant within the school and the contribution that the participant might make to developing and enhancing collaborative working in the school. The length of the self-evaluation will be 1000 words (+/- 10%).
Special Arrangements
Delivery can be on/off campus at summer school or on weekends and evenings dependent on cohort. It involves developing web based supportive networks and participants will be invited to join the course at set times to ensure this is manageable
