Course description |
An intensive course in spoken and written German for those with little or no previous knowledge of the language. The course is open to students of any year, but not to those qualified for admission to German 1B. The number of students admitted is limited. This is a course for highly motivated students willing to put in a year of sustained hard work to acquire degree entry level competence in German language. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The course is designed to take beginners or near beginners up to the standard for entry into German 2. Students will develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills on the basis of a comprehensive introduction to the grammatical structures of German along with a basic vocabulary of approximately 1,600 high-frequency words and phrases. |
Assessment Information
Regular written tests 30%; 1 two-hour class exam 10%; oral mark based on performance in and attendance of oral practical classes 10%; degree exam 50%
