Course description |
The course will concentrate on the later plays by Strindberg and Ibsen, examining their rejection of Naturalism and the formative influence of their Symbolist or Expressionist dramas. The critic Georg Brandes' concurrent Nietzschean turn towards 'aristocratic radicalism' will also be studied, together with a selection of his critical writings on Ibsen and Strindberg. |

Assessment Information
1 essay of 1500 words (30 %), 1 exam paper of 3 hours (70 %). |
