Course description |
The course will begin with a study of the historical and linguistic context
of medieval Iceland. It will than proceed to the development of a basic
reading knowledge of Old Icelandic texts and a study of grammar. A selection
of texts will be close-read, including extracts from Snorri Sturluson's Edda
and Ari Thorgilsson's Libellus Islandorum.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the course will be able to read texts in Old Icelandic. They will have gained some understanding of the development of culture in medieval
Iceland and will be able to recognise its importance in the broader Scandinavian context. |
