| Course description |
This course will look at the role of racial discourse in constructions of modernity, through a study of American and British texts. In particular, we will be concerned with the ways in which "Enlightenment" thinking and writing incorporated racial categories into the "humanist" project. The texts on this course engage with this problem and articulate alternative modernities in a Transatlantic context. |
