Course description This course examines critical approaches to Third World development studies. We will trace the various theoretical underpinnings of development studies and how they have changed over the past 20-30 years. Emphasis is placed on understanding how capitalism and neo-colonialism has shaped the kinds of development projects that have emerged. Examples will be drawn from all over the world with a particular emphasis on South Asia. The course will conclude by examining neo-liberalism and the impact this has had on development over the past 10-15 years.
