Course description |
The purpose of this course is to acquaint postgraduate students with the full variety of art and artefacts of the later Middle Ages in Northern Europe. It is intended to reconstruct the original form, use and character of a selection of objects held in museums in Edinburgh. The status of such fragments, their history and the problems they raise for the modern viewer, will also be addressed. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The intention is to provide an overview of the visual culture of the later Middle Ages through a series of classes largely held in Edinburgh Museums in order to take full advantage of the rich resources of visual material available for the study of late Middle Age European culture. |
Assessment Information
Principal means of assessment is a 4,000 word essay. In addition each candidate's performance will be monitored through the presentation of seminar material. |
