Course description |
This course looks at the discovery of Spanish painting from the Enlightenment until the end of the 19th century. It is concerned with how art historians came to interpret Golden Age painting as distinct from art in Italy. In addition it examines the methods and approaches of the path-finding writers on Spanish art. |

Course Delivery Information
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The intention is to provide a thorough acquaintance with 17th-century Spanish art and its historiography. This will be done by textural analysis of primary source material and classes held at the National Gallery on the major Spanish pictures. |
Assessment Information
Principal means of assessment is a 4,000 word essay. In addition each candidate's performance will be monitored through the presentation of seminar material. |
