Course description |
This course aims to acquaint postgraduate students with what have come to be seen as the key issues in the debate about the parameters, nature and scope of art and theory in the late 20th century. The course will concentrate on key writers, some of whom may be regarded as mainline art historians, others figures from cognate disciplines who have had a considerable influence on the methodology and development of the subject. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To provide an introduction to key issues involved in visual research at postgraduate level. To examine the theoretical underpinnings of the practice of research into visual culture. To encourage students to reflect critically on the process of research. To assist students in the articulation of academic discourses. To facilitate the development of a supportive research environment. |
Assessment Information
Principal means of assessment is a 3,000 word essay. In addition each candidate's performance will be monitored through the presentation of seminar material. |
