Course description An integrated course in spoken and written modern Persian. All the common grammatical structures are studied, translation done both from and into Persian, and a basic vocabulary and set of idioms are built up. Particular attention is paid to oral work.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The student is expected to be able to master grammatical structures, basic translation from and into Persian, and acquire a basic vocabulary and set of idioms and some speaking ability.
Assessment Information
Regular written exercises and occasional class tests will be set and marked (15% of final mark); 1 two-hour interim examination plus oral examination at end of first semester (25% of final mark); 1 three-hour examination plus oral examination at end of second semester (60% of final mark).
