Course description |
The course aims to investigate the development of Islamic law from its formative period at the beginnings of Islam up until its systemisation in "classical" Islam. Aside from the opening, organisational meeting, the course depends to a large extent on student presentations on assigned topics and makes particular use of a growing body of primary-source material available in translation. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
In addition to becoming familiar with the growing body of material on the development of Islamic law, including primary-source material available in translation, student presentations will encourage development of organisational, analytical and presentational skills. |
Assessment Information
One essay of 2,000 words.
One 2-hour examination. |
