Course description Description of salient phonological phenomena mainly exemplified from English; their analysis in terms of current linguistic theory.

Teaching will be shared with Introduction to Phonology & Phonetics during Block 1 (Monday's 11am to 12 noon in the Hugh Robson Building Lecture Theatre and Friday's 10am to 11am in F21, 7 George Square).

Teaching in Block 2 takes place on Tuesday's 11am to 1pm in 3.11 Dugald Stewart Building.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To acquire a basic knowledge of the relevant phenomena appropriate to postgraduate study in English and Applied Linguistics: to develop an ability to discover general patterns in, and to formulate generalisations over sets of relevant data.
