Course description |
This course will examine communication from an evolutionary perspective. It will first ask what communication is, what communication systems have in common, and how different communication systems vary. It will then introduce the various issues that must be addressed by an evolutionary account of communication, and the various proposed solutions to these problems. Finally, it will apply these insights to a number of particular instances of communication in the natural world, including language. |
